Welcome to my collection of photographs of the history of coal mining in South Wales. I have been taking photos and shooting cinefilm of the area for over 20 years. I grew up in the Garw Valley in the 1930’s surrounded by four pits and numerous drift mines but my fascination was really sparked when I heard that the Glenavon Colliery (also known as Glengarw or more commonly as the Ballarat) in the Garw Valley was about be shut down and demolished in 1959.

My web site will show you a world that no longer exists…
